Today we took 2 buses to get to Hampstead Heath.  The views of the city were great from the Heath.

We had a walk through the Heath then had a drink in the Spaniards Inn.

We stopped off at Hyde Park on the way back where they had a free event where you could go in and watch several sports on large screens.  There was then going to be musical entertainment.  We were refused entry because we had food and drink in our bags.  We were told we would have to eat/drink items of dispose of them before we could gain entry.  We decided it wasn't worth it.
Lot of people were turned back as they had bags of food with them!!!!

Olympic Women's Cycling Road Race....

John and I took a walk down to watch the Women's Cycling road race today.  Although it was rainy it was still a good day.

Olympic Men's Cycling Road Race.......

Today we went along to Putney Bridge to watch the Mens's road race.  We got a good spot against the barriers where we could see them coming from a distance.  We had our cameras ready on continuous shooting to try and get at least one or two decent pics as they pass so quickly.
We were disappointed on the positions of the British riders as there were such high hopes for them.
We waited in our spot for over 2 hours and then the moment came.  The atmosphere was great.

Olympic Gloriana video.......

This morning we went down the road from the flat to the river Thames.  We waited about 20mins and then watched the Gloriana transport the Olympic flame down the river to Tower Bridge.

Hyde Park, Kipling and Harrods

Today we went to Hyde Park and found a bench in the shade...... It was at least 30 degrees in the sun.... We stayed there most of the day.
Later we went to look for a Costa and found a Kipling shop!!!  They had some bags on sale so I just had to treat myself to one.  We also found a purse and the black monkey was called Daniel!!

After our cold drink in Costa we had a quick look around Harrods..... before heading home...

Like a lobster.......

Today we went on a river cruise down to the Thames Barrier and Greenwich.  It was clear blue skies and about 28 degrees.  We sat at the front of the boat and got some clear shots of the sights.  One of the crew on the boat gave us a very good talk about each landmark and information on the multi-million pounds homes along the river front.
We spent a short time in Greenwich and then got the boat back to Westminster.
By the time we got back I was like a lobster.  Think it will be a cold bath tonight!!!!!

221b Baker Street......

Today we took the bus to the terminus which was Baker Street.  We walked along Baker Street towards Regent Park and found The Sherlock Holmes Museum....221b Baker Street.  A replica of the home mentioned in the Conan Doyle books.  There was a huge queue so we didn't go in....

We went into Regents Park and had our lunch and a very nice walk around the park and along the canal.

We thought we'd go to the zoo but it was too expensive to get in as was Madam Tussuad's.  If we'd gone to both it would have cost £150!!!

Calling Kingston....

Today was a very nice day, no rain at all.  We walked along the river to Putney then picked up a bus to Kingston.  We spotted this unusual sight from the bus so had to take a picture.
Kingston was a very nice place, we had our lunch at the riverside then walked round the many shops....
We lost John at one point and couldn't seem to get through to him on his phone.  Fortunately a good Samaritan let him call us on his phone and so we were reunited after about an hour.  Daniel restarted his phone and that seemed to sort it.

Frustrating beads!!!!

I saw these beads in The Bead Shop in Covent Garden and decided to make a bracelet for myself and for Mairi as a present for letting us house sit for her.  As I had no jewellery making tools with me I bought some elastic and clear nail polish.  I thought this was going to be a 2 minute job but no no....The decorated beads seemed to have a shelf in the middle of them and the elastic wouldn't go through.  I had a darning needle and had a job to get that through.
I went back to the shop and they said I would have to hold them up to the light so I could see straight through the hole.  I tried this and after some trial and error managed to get the elastic through.  Even if I had my tools I don't think I would have got the elastic through any easier.  I am very pleased with the finished result.

Sore feet today.......

Today we took the bus as usual to Hyde Park.  We walked over to Wellington Arch in time to see some of the horse guards coming up from Buckingham Palace.

We then went down Constitution Hill to Buckingham Palace in time to see a small ceremony of Queen's guards marching and playing music.

We walked down the Mall and through St.James's Park where we saw some very friendly cygnets, geese and up in a tree there was a heron.

We continued our walk down to the Thames.  We watched as an air ambulance negotiated a tricky landing in the middle of a small park.

We strolled along the Thames and saw lots of great landmarks.

Millennium Bridge and the Shard

Cleopatra's Needle

Millennium Bridge

Tower Bridge

St.Paul's Cathedral

Shakespeare Globe Theatre

We walked across the Millennium bridge and went into the Tate Modern Gallery and saw some weird and wonderful art!! Including a Picasso.

By the time we'd done all this today my feet were aching....  We got ourselves back to the bus stop at Hyde Park but had to wait quite a while for the bus.  When it came it was crowded.  I was glad eventually to get a seat for a wee while.
Tomorrow hopefully will be a more relaxing day on my feet.....
